Maggie Valley was named after the daughter of the first post master. It offers some of the best views in the Smokies, fine restaurants, a large variety of lodging, and all kinds of shops and businesses. From a fishing standpoint, it is close as you can get to the Cataloochee Valley.
The Blue Ridge Parkway, possibly the most spectacular scenic driving route in the country, follows the ridges of the Southern Appalachians near Maggie Valley.. The parkway is nearest Maggie Valley at Soco Gap. From there, the parkway heads south to Cherokee and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park or north to Asheville continuing on its 469 mile journey.
Maggie Valley is also a great central location for mountain biking and road biking. The Cataloochee Ski Area begins pumping out the snow for their slopes when it gets cold. It has one of the longest-running ski seasons in the Southeast, and features a variety of trails, from steep to easy runs for beginners. Snowboarders can slide down the slopes or perform tricks at the terrain park. Maggie Valley’s Ghost Town in the Sky, a western themed amusement park with a chair lift and rides is a fun place for many visitors. Horseback riding is popular in the area. We should also mention there are some trout ponds for the little ones in Maggie Valley.
