Weather and Stream Conditions Forecast - Coming Week
Unless the weather guys have gone nuts, we are looking at a great week of weather ahead for those of your
lucky enough to be in the Great Smoky Mountains. It was cold again last night, with the low reaching 24
degrees in Gatlinburg, but the high today will be a little warmer, reaching a high of 52. .

Tuesday starts a warming trend. They are showing a high of 55 but the real good news is the low that night
will only drop down to 32, not down in the low 20's like it has for the past few nights. That makes a huge
difference in what you can expect the water temperature to be the following day. To many angles look at only
the high for the day. That's always a factor but if the water has to warm up from being exposed to air in the
low twenties over night, it takes all day for it to warm up much and it usually never has a  chance to get close
to the daily high air temperature.

Wednesday's high should reach 60 degrees in Gatlinburg with the low that night only going down to 42

Thursday should be the best day for fishing the park of the last several days. During the winter, it's a
rare warm front that doesn't bring with it a chance for rain and that's the case for Thursday. They are only
showing a 30 percent chance but I'm betting that will be increased simply because they almost always follow
that pattern. As long as it doesn't rain excessively, that too, should help improve the fishing conditions.

The low Thursday night should be around 47 degrees. That will help make a huge difference in the water
temperature on Friday.
You should be looking at water in the lower elevations measuring close to
50 degrees on Friday.
Friday's high should be a Spring like 67 degrees.

I know Saturday's forecast is subject to change since it's almost a week from now, but they are showing
another warm day with the high reaching 67 degrees. Sunday's high is predicted to be a little cooler, with a
high of 55 degrees but if the forecast holds up, it too should be a good day to fish.

The bottom line is that if this long range forecast holds up, January days just don't get any better than they
will this coming week. Low pressure, cloudy days almost always provide better fishing conditions than the
clear, bright days high pressure systems bring along.

The water temperature isn't by any means a controlling factor like many think but unless you alter your
fishing methods for very cold water, it can very well become a big indirect factor in your success.

You shouldn't have to worry about cold water by the end of the week. The trout will be back in the current
making it easier for those with a one track approach to their fly fishing.
