Great Smoky Mountains Fishing Report - 02/13/14
How about some good weather news. The long range forecast for Knoxville shows
the high temperature on Monday will be 54, Tuesday 57 and Wednesday 63 degrees.
Smoky Mountain Weather:
Yes, it is still snowing and from looking at it out the window under the spot lights on
the house, it appears to be about 5 to 8 inches MORE than I would like for it to be.
For Gatlinburg, there is a 80% chance of more snow today (currently it is still
snowing) with a high near 36. There is another 1 to 2 inches possible. The low
tonight will be about 26.
Rain is likely on Friday, mainly after 5pm. The high should be near 44.
Smoky Mountain Stream Conditions:
The streams with links have nearby USGS Station Real-time stream data:
Little River: Rate 352 cfs at 2.24 ft.
(good wading conditions up to 250 cfs, and with extra caution up to 400 cfs)
Oconaluftee River: Rate 656 cfs at 2.08 ft.
(good wading conditions up to 500 cfs, and with extra caution up to 700 cfs)
Cataloochee Creek: Rate 156 cfs at 1.79 ft
(good wading conditions up to 125 with extra caution up to 150 cfs)
Little Pigeon River doesn't have a station nearby. Yesterday it looked like it was
near a normal level.
Hazel Creek and the other larger NC streams flowing into Cherokee Lake: My guess
they are getting near normal levels.

Whatever Hits Me:
As you can see in the picture, I thought I would hike up across the Appalachian Trail
through the park and check things out. I figured I could see all the streams and give
a much better report on the condit.........Oh, I'm sorry, I was still asleep. I was
having a dream. By the way, I had a good dream the other night but woke up only to
find out I was still asleep.
The picture is one Derek Porter sent me from iced over, snowed in, Atlanta, Georgia.
The picture is one he dug out from boredom, sitting at home waiting on the power to
go off. It was taken on January 8, 2011, when he was hiking the Appalachian Trail
during a snow storm. It was taken from Rocky Top Ridge line heading south
I'm guessing it looks similar to what it looks look like now. Thanks, Derek
