Great Smoky Mountains Fishing Report - 01/06/14
Happy Blue Monday. The holidays are over. It is time to go fishing. Well, that is if your
retired and live in Palm Beach or the Cayman Islands. If you live in Pigeon Forge,
Tennessee, it is time to turn the gas fireplace on: however, we lost our remote last
winter and can't figure out how to light it without it. If you hear a loud noise......If you
live north of Pigeon Forge, it is time to leave home and look for a warmer place to be
for the next couple of days.

Smoky Mountain Weather:
Looks like the frontal movement slowed down some from yesterday's forecast but
only by a few hours. It is lightly snowing in Pigeon Forge but the ground is already
white. The temperature was much warmer early this morning than expected but it is
rapidly falling and at the moment or 6:28 AM, is 22 degrees. They now say the low
will be 2 degrees tonight, 18 for the high today, and down to 9 tomorrow night.

Smoky Mountain Stream Conditions:
The streams with links have nearby USGS Station Real-time stream data:

Little River: Rate 548 cfs at 2.81 ft.
(good wading conditions up to 250 cfs, and with extra caution up to 400cfs)

Oconaluftee River: Rate 1110 cfs at 2.64 ft.
(good wading conditions up to 500 cfs, and with extra caution up to 700 cfs)

Cataloochee Creek: no reading cfs at 3.15 ft (probably ice has it not  working)
(good wading conditions up to 125 cfs, and with extra caution up to 150 cfs)

Little Pigeon River doesn't have a station nearby but it is back up for sure

Hazel Creek and the other larger NC streams flowing into Cherokee Lake: My guess
is they are all high and rising

Tips for the Self Proclaimed Experts:
I'll be dang if I know

Whatever Hits Me - I watched the game at Green Bay some yesterday and can't
get over how they can throw  that football so well at such low temperatures. Now, If I
could only do that with a fly rod.

It reminded me of a high school football game I played in about the tenth grade in
Cullman, Alabama. It rained for three straight days and they put the game off until
Saturday night (if  I remember right). The problem was it kelp raining and rained
throughout the game. The referees had a hard time with the football. They had to
hold it in place until the center got over it and held it. Otherwise, it would float off. Oh
well, that is the closest thing I could relate to it, although that isn't very close.
