Fly Fishing Strategies and Weather/Stream Update
At 5:00 AM this morning, it is raining but very lightly. According to the radar, the
rain is just now reaching the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. According to
the National Weather Service precipitation map, the area to our west is receiving
from a quarter to a half inch of rain with some areas going between a half and
three-quarters of an inch. I hope that is the case for the Smokies. We need rain
to keep the stream levels up. I feel confident, the rain will help the very low water
conditions and make the catching a little easier.

The rain should be ending by noon today. We will see clear skies through the
weekend. Tomorrow's high will be about 55 and the low Friday night, about
31.This is a weak cold front. Saturday will be a little warmer with a high of about
62. Sunday will be about the same.

All in all, this is an excellent forecast. The rain should help improve the low water
conditions and the weather will be nice and warm for the next few days. Hatches
will be few and far between due to the clear skies but a few sparse hatches will
continue to take place. The strategies I outlined on Tuesday should be right on
target.

The leaves on the trees in the valley have changed from their bright colors to a
dull gold and brown color indicating they won't be clinging to the limbs much
longer. I don't think falling leaves will be much of a problem for anglers this
weekend. Of course, a few more are going to fall, especially in the low elevations
of the park. Most of those in the higher elevations are on the ground and in the
bottom of the streams.

I hope everyone has an opportunity to get outside and enjoy the beautiful
weather we will have for the next few days. Thank you for visiting our website
