Whatever Hits Me - How's The Fishing?

If anything gets me off  to a bad start it's a telephone call, an email from
someone, or a face to face question that ask "how is the fishing"? I want to say or
write something like, "the fish are still living, growing, eating, and swimming in the
water you dumb idiot", but of course, I never do that. The questions always come
from very nice, sincere people. I can't even say, the "fishing" is done by humans
and of course, by otters, bears, birds, etc. How good it is depends on the fisher.

I can't tell them that most "fishermen" don't have a clue as to what they are
actually trying to do, rather just want results. I can't say, most of them want to
catch fish RIGHT NOW, the fast and easy way and plenty of them - and without
having to worry about LEANING anything about it.  Is that what you are asking me?

I usually say something like, "well, the streams are in good shape and the weather
is nice - how can I help you"? I can't say, "well the fish are still eating. They
haven't stopped eating and if they do they will die".

If I did, they would respond with something like, "well, they eat more at certain
times that others, don't they"? Then I would be forced to say, "well dude, how
many strikes are you planning on missing? You only need them to eat one fly
stupid".

I can't say, "If you think
your fishing isn't any good, Sir,  why don't you fish a
recently stocked stream". If I was in a really bad mood, I could say, "have you tried
one of the trout ponds".

There's no such thing as "bad fishing, lousy fishing, or excellent fishing".
There is
such a thing as a lousy fishermen.
They represent about 99.9 percent of all
fishermen.

Sorry, but I just don't have much use for anyone wanting good results from
something they are not willing to go to the trouble to learn anything about. By the
way, I hope the "heart surgery" is good in town. I may need some one day.

the heart surgery in the Smokies?
