Whatever Hits Me - Upsetting Reports About The Closing of
the Park At The Townsend Entrance
I'm sorry for missing yesterday's article. I went to the hospital Thursday at noon for
some test and they ended up admitted me overnight for more test on Friday. I
didn't get back home until last night. There isn't anything wrong with me that a new
body wouldn't fix. I just like supporting our doctors and hospitals. I did hear some
disturbing things from a couple of different nurses though.

One nice lady from Knoxville that works in the radiology department at the new,
beautiful Ft. Sanders/Sevier Medical Center told the following story about trying to
see what was going on with the park on the second day of the shutdown. She said
that she and her husband drove to Townsend and were stopped well short of the
entrance to  the park by two very rude and hateful park rangers. She reported that
they were threating to lock people up, cursing people and were extremely
offensive to the people who were not trying to force their way in, but simply asking
what was going on and if they could walk in. According to her, no one was being
allowed to walk into the park. According to her, the barrier was placed well outside
the park's entrance sign and actually prior to reaching some of the local
Townsend businesses who in essence had their business closed to traffic. She
also said that the business owners had to get the Townsend major involved to get
the park rangers to move the barricades on down the road to the entrance to the
park.

Doctor Dill, my heart doctor, listened in on the conversation and got upset about
what she was reporting. He is a fly fisherman who owned a fly shop in Montana for
several years. He was upset at what she was reporting as well as i.

Thursday night, my nurse asked me if I had been able to enjoy the park since they
had opened it back up. That begin another conversation from yet anther lady
about how she, her husband and their out of town visitors were treated at the
Townsend entrance by rangers. I'm not sure which day that occurred but she
reported the exact same thing happening at the Townsend entrance. She said
that the rangers acted as if they were highly upset that they were having to work
and were very, very rude.

I responded by saying that was probably because all the other park employees
were getting paid to stay at home and they were having to work. That was all I
knew to say. I did ask her if she knew the lady in the radiology department and she
said she didn't. In other words, she was not aware anyone else there had a similar
experience

That was upsetting to me to say the least. Someone in the chain of command
needs to inform the park rangers who were working at the gate during those
incidents exactly who it is they work for. They work for the very people they were
being rude to, or citizens of this country. That includes everyone from the ranger
level, local Smoky Mountain Park officials, Department of the Interior and the
President of the United States. They all, including every member of both houses of
the U. S. Congress need to have their jobs closely reviewed by the citizens of this
country. I believe there are far more than a few of them that needs to be looking
for another job.
