Whatever Hits Me - I'm Smarter Than I Thought

The older I get, the smarter I realize I am. No, I don't mean that in a cocky manner at
all. It's just that I know I won't be on this earth a whole lot longer and I'm concerned
with what my grandchildren are going to face. You see, what's making me think I'm
smarter than I always though I was, is listening to and seeing the outright stupid
actions of those that I at least hoped were smarter than me, myself and I.

I've never had to run a country. I've always been satisfied with leaving that up to
people I thought were wiser and better qualified. Nowadays, I'm not so sure about
that. At times I feel the folks in both political parties in Washington are trying to insult
what little intelligence I have. Recently, I'm outright embarrassed at just how stupid
those we rely on for the well being of the country actually are.

I have always known some of those involved in running the country put their own
personal well being above the very folks they pledged to represent to the best of
their ability. What is outright scary is the fact there may be more bad eggs in the hen
house than good ones.

I couldn't pass a 3rd grade history class, but if I remember right, the Roman Empire
lasted for almost 1500 years and fell flat on its face. The United States declared their
independence in 1776, or 237 years ago. Sounds reasonable to me to assume,
nothing on earth is guaranteed, not even a fairly new country.

We can't fish on our own land, the people's National Parks. We shut down part of the
government because of a lack of funds and then proceed to spend more money than
we would if things were left alone.

Yep, at least this morning, I'm not only feeling smarter than a redneck, I'm smarter
than a congressman. And by the way, if you elect me President, I will use the same
insurance as everyone else. No, I won't stop fishing. I will expect some time off.
