Weather and Stream Conditions Forecast - Coming Week
All the streams in the park got a good dose of water yesterday. All of them got too high to
fish before the day was over. All of them are falling fast, much faster than I thought they
would. According to the precipitation map, most of the park received from 11/2 to 2 inches
of rainfall.

So much for the high water table from all the rain the area has received this year. I've
always thought that made a difference in the way the streams fell when it did rain.
Apparently is doesn't.  All it took was a few days of no rain and when it did rain, the
streams fell about as fast as they ever do. I guess the water table has little to do with the
surface water. Hey, I'm a trout head (small pea size brain) not a meteorologist . What do I
know about the weather?

All the streams should be back down to "okay" levels before the day ends. At 4:30 AM this
morning, Little River is flowing at 420 cfs and ideal levels are 250 or less. Oconaluftee
River is at 796 and 500 is fine. Cataloochee Creek is flowing at 138 and 125 is fine.

All things considered, it appears the amount of rainfall we received was about perfect.

Today there's a 30% chance of some scattered showers, with thunderstorms possible. It
will be a little cooler with a high of 81.  Tuesday will be mostly sunny with a high near 83. A
slight chance of rain returns Wednesday with a high near 86.

Thursday and Thursday night the chances of rain gets up to 50%.

They are predicting showers and thunderstorms will be likely on Friday (a 60% chance). It
should reach 80 degrees.

The odds drop down to 30% for Saturday. The high should be about 81.

If this forecast is half right, conditions should be excellent for the coming week.
