Fly Fishing Strategies - Which Fly To Use - Part 1
Current and Forecast Stream and Weather Conditions
We had some very welcome rain last night. At 8:45 this morning, It seems to be over in Pigeon
Forge and according to the radar, it has ended in the park. According to the National Weather
Service Precipitation Map, most of the park received about three-quarters of an inch with much of it
getting up to an inch. Looks like some areas on the North Carolina side got a little more but it
appears that is just about the perfect amount of rain to keep the water levels up where they should
The stream levels are all headed up at the USGS stations which are all outside of the park. They
will continue to show the water rising for a while as the water drains from the higher elevations.
Today will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 67. Looks like it will remain windy for most of the day
as the cold front continues to pass.
Tonight's low at Gatlinburg will be around 39. Tuesday will be sunny with a high near 67. The wind
will die down to less than 4 mph. Tuesday night's low will be around 42.
Wednesday's high will be near 72 with a low of about 50.Thursday will bring about a slight change
of rain again. The high will be a cool 67, perfect Fall weather. Thursday night they are showing a
40 percent chance of showers with a low of around 46. The chance of rain continues into Friday
but it's reduced to only a 30 percent chance of showers.
The weekend looks great for anglers. Saturday should be mostly sunny with a high near 64 and a
low around 41 for Saturday night. Sunday should be sunny with a high near 67.
The weather forecast almost looks too good to be true. I hope they are right because if they are,
fishing conditions will remain excellent.
I will continue with the fishing strategies tomorrow.
